Raksha Bandhan
Raksha Bandhan falls on 13th August, 2011. It is celebrated on the day of Shravan Poornima that falls in the month of August every year.
Raksha Bandhan / Rakhi is a traditional Hindu festival symbolizing the love and affection between a brother and a sister.
On Rakhsha Bandhan Sisters decorate rakhi thali with sweets, rakhi and tie a delicate, decorated, thread on the wrist of their brothers as a symbol of love and affection & in return the brother presents her with a gift & promises to protect her all life.
Rakhi is also known as RakshaBandhan meaning the bond of protection.
The festival of rakhi is celebrated in various ways in different areas of India. While observed in a similar manner across most of North India, other regions of India celebrate this festival in their own unique ways. In Maharashtra and its capital city Mumbai, Raksha Bandhan Day is celebrated as Narial Purnima or Coconut Full Moon day.
